This is a review of the movie City Hall.
City Hall is a movie starring John Cusack and Al Pacino. It revolves around Cusack’s character as an aide to Pacino, who is mayor of New York. The movie can be characterized as an action drama with a wonderful cast of supporting actors such as Danny Aiello, Bridget Fonda and Martin Landau.
The opening of the movie shows an unfortunate shooting that slays a young child. The shooting is between a suspect and a copy and it has wide ranging ramifications for the mayor.
The movie excels in the following:
- Dialogue. It is well paced and cleverly delivered.
- Aiello and Pacino. The scenes they share are riveting.
The movie lets you down with:
- A transparent plot. 30% of the way through the movie you know what is going to happen.
- Bridget Fonda’s character. I think her character was added at the last minute since it only exists to allow a plot hole to be filled.
If you like Cusack, Pacino or movies about New York, you’ll enjoy this movie.
