Review of Hormel Pepperoni

Pepperoni is pepperoni is pepperoni, right? No, not when it comes to Hormel Pepperoni.

Pepperoni is one of those things you have to get right.

The following is where it can go wrong:

  • Spices – You want to know you’re eating pepperoni, but you don’t want to be overwhelmed. Hormel has a great mixture of spices.
  • Grease – You shouldn’t experience slippery digits when eating it by the slice. Hormel doesn’t have excess grease.
  • Texture – When you eat it you should have a little firmness and an easy bite. Hormel does this.

Hormel’s pepperoni is typically 10-20% higher than the store brand, but you know what you’re getting. Quality.

The ingredients are a little weird, though:

Ingredients: Pork, Beef, Salt, Contains 2% or less of Water, Dextrose, Spices, Lactic Acid Starter Culture, Oleoresin of Paprika, Garlic Powder, Sodium Nitrite, BHA, BHT, Citric Acid.

The two that caught my eye were Lactic Acid Starter Culture and Oleoresin of Paprika. Lactic Acid Starter Culture helps with spoilage prevention and Oleoresin of Paprika is very cool since it is used for coloring and flavor.

The Hormel Pepperoni is delicious and you always know you’re getting a quality product. They also have funny commercials:

  1. My friend first introduced me to Hormel Pepperoni when I was praising his home-made spaghetti dish. It really added a lot of flavor into the noodles, and I was quite amazed by the way it perfected the dish. Now it’s also on my home grocery list haha.
